    Partial Save with Workflow

I have a workflow which is triggered on the item changed event [when form is submitted to the form library], Users can save partial forms and/or once completed they can submit it for further action, but the issue here is that the workflow is triggered on the Form Save as well as on Form Submit which is messing around my workflow state, is there any way to trigger the workflow on Form Submit only and not on Form Save?

    Hello Ajayrsawant,

I am assuming you are using out of the box workflow or SharePoint Designer workflow. In either case, SharePoint doesn't know the difference between a save and a submit, just that the document in the library has changed. There are a couple hacks you can do to get around this. The easiest thing is to only have the workflow run on a new item, not a changed one. If this won't work for you because you need to run the workflow on changed forms, you can create a promoted property where a particular value is set when they click the submit button. If they don't click the submit button, this value does not get changed. Then you can have the workflow run when that value is present. Hope this helps!

    Re: Partial Save with Workflow

    Hi Janice,

Sorry for incomplete details about my workflow environment but I am actually using state workflow [designed in Visual Studio] that needs to run on the form changed so I have promoted property [called it as "IsPartialSave"] and also created a new "Save" State to hang the workflow in it when the form is saved. This solution worked well in my case.

    Thanks for your suggestions.
