    Adding Link to existing File

Instead of attaching a file using the File Attachment control, I'd like to provide the ability for a user to add a link to an file that exists in a SharePoint library. How can I do this?

    TIA

    Hey Dean,

One way to do this is create a text file where the user can paste the url then have the same text field but change it to a hyperlink. Probably the best is to have the text field that they can input into hide as soon as they enter the url or maybe on seperate views. You can test by designing a new form, add a text field, put it twice in your view and right click and convert one to a hyperlink. Preview it, enter a url into the one and as soon as you press enter it will be a hyperlink in the other one.

It is pretty slick with Sharepoint and I have used it in conjunction with sharepoint to have dynamic links per form user or by department to store their team site URL's and links to other things and be able to change them dynamically behind the scenes within my InfoPath dashboards. Great way to tie your InfoPath forms and Sharepoint together and leverage the strengths of each.

You can also look at some of Matt's how-tos as I have used InfoPath to query and update SP lists such as contacts, etc and further integrate my forms and SP.

    Lots of possibilities.

Have fun - and let me know if you have any questions with DBXL.

Re: Adding Link to existing File

Is there a clearer way to do this with access?  I mean I open up a hyperlink control and design view and it either asks for an address (which it always puts http:// in front of).

     See it's like this:

I have these cad files that are like 25megs that I wanted to add as an attachment but my boss says that will clog up the network, so he suggested hyperlinks to files that are shared on the network, but I want users to be able to add these hyperlinks.  Is this possible?

     Thank you.

If you give them a rich text box, they can paste the link in and it will work as a link. You can even add some data validation to make sure they have the address you want (if the files should come from a particular library or some such....).
