Hi,
we created a huge site using XmlFormView. We have > 20 forms with maximum of 10 views per form and up to 600 fields per form. User using heavily multiple forms during a session. Configuration is: SharePoint 2007 Forms Server, Windows Server 2003 R2, Single Server/No Farm.
Randomly the session breaks in both, Firefox and IE.
Using Fiddler and Firebug we investigated the session lost issue and found that the Infopath XmlFormView creates a huge number of cookies and stores some kind of data there. It depends on form design and usage what kind of data stored there. Sooner or later the maximum storage allowed and supported by browser for cookies exceeds the limits. We found cookies with more than 16 KB of size and dozens of them, all starting with a GUID. Because the ASP.NET session cookie set by SharePoint is the eldest it get removed eventually by the browser. With next request the session ends and the user gets kicked.
I'm quite sure that this is a bug, because there is no need to store such bunch of data in cookies where session variables and Ajax access is available. However, we didn't find a way to prevent XmlFormView from storing tons of values that way.
Actually, we remove the cookies before loading the form and hoping that the user is not using save to many times so cookie list isn't growing further. But it seems that is nothing but a workaround.
Is there anybody experiencing a similar behavior or does anybody know whether Mircosoft is trying to address the issue? Is there a way to send a bug report specific to Infopath/Browser Forms issues?
Thanks,
Joerg
