running out of ideas.   How to I have a hyperlink on a form that the url behind it will change as soon as an associated drop-down field changes?

 

I think my problem is that the displayed url is set on page load, and nothing I can do is forcing said field to reload with the new value. 

So - the hyperlink is using a field for the URL? And you have a rule on the drop down to change it? And it isn't changing? Is this a browser form or a filler form?

 I've been trying different things. basically, user selects a job title from a dropdown.

below that I want a link to the position description for the job.

 I tried making just a plain text with a link applied to it, and then pointed the hyperlink to the datasource of the picker on the field that has the link (not a hyperlink).

 also tried inserting a hyperlink field from the drop down list onto the page to just display that field from the job title item

 

(to be clear, on my data source for the job, I have a field that is a sharepoint hyperlink ...so link text as well as the url of the link;  I also have a field which is just the url string.

 I would... but never mind.   just redid a simple insert of the hyperlink field from the data source of the job description drop down.   and now it works as I'd expect.

no clue why it was being so difficult
