form-id behavior when publishing to sps

    Lo,

I used to have a form template published to a form library called 'collection of requests'. I never had to look at the form-id or had the need to change it. Today it is being used a lot.

But, as always, the form template needs a release and I don't want to change the production form template directly, so I created a sub-site for development purposes. I published the template to the development site and created a new form library, with the same name 'collection of requests'.

After doing some development and re-publishing the template to the development site, I gave it a try. However, opening the form in Infopath resulted in the conflicting versions dialog, due to the same form-id but different source. So I tried changing the form-name and form-id (File/Properties) of the development form template, but that doesn't seem to be possible? Ofcourse I could type in a new name and generate a new id, but after re-publishing it, the name part of the form-id name gets replaced by the form library name.

Is this expected behavior? I'm using VS2005 with IP2003 and SPS2003 all patched to the latest version.

If so, does it also means that you cannot have form libraries with the same name within your enterprise (even when the form template and contents is completely different) due to possibly the same form-id? (I have to admit that I didn't change the XSD and consequently the datetime stamp part of the form-id did not change either.)

    Marc.
