    User authentication strategy

I have a 1 table db where I'm storing username and password and other fields.

I have the user selecting their username from a dropdown list first before typing in the password (Dropdown list is populated from another list).  Here is my logic problem:

1:  I first run a rule to query by username.  If the user does NOT exist, I want them to "enter" a password and then hit "Submit".  This would put their username and password into the database.  The problem is the "datafields" for username and password are disabled because the query returned no results.

I realize I could put a "new record" button, but then it is rather clumsy for the users.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

You would need code that would automate the new record process.

You should look at an Active Directory web service.  Then you could identify each user by their domain authentication.

    Just an idea.
