How to flag a form if the value of a field exists in a SQL table?

I have a form that users are going to submit to a workflow in a SharePoint document library. I'm not sure how to approach the following situation.

A user enters a value in a field. The value that the user has entered is then validated against a column in a SQL table. If the value the user enters is in the SQL table set another field to "Flagged". I will then use this "Flagged" field in my workflow to determine the route this submitted document will take.

How do I accomplish the above scenario? Thanks in advance for your help!

I would assume you would have the SQL data in a secondary data connection.

You would do a filter on the SQL data and check your field validation.

This would be a conditional rule, probably triggered by entry in the control in the form where the user would enter.

If true then it would set your status field to "flagged" or whatever and that would be promoted in SP.

I have the secondary connection set up.

Can you be more specific? I'm new to InfoPath and not sure were the filter or conditional rule goes. Do you have step by step instructions or an example somewhere to look at? Thanks.

On the field the user enters the data.

    Add a rule

    Add a condition

    field = select enter formula

    add a field

Navigate to the secondary data source

    select the coresponding SQL field

    Ok that

Then add an action to set a field value

    select status field

and then put the text "flagged" or what ever you want.

Then once they enter a value and leave the cell if that value is found in the SQL data the field will be updated otherwise it will remain unchanged.

    Play with this.

Perfect! Thanks Clay! That did the trick! I also set another rule where if the user went back and changed the field and the value was not in SQL table the status field was changed back to a non-flagged status.
