Creating a hyperlink to a Word document

I have been trying to create a hyperlink to a Word document.  When I insert the address using http:// and the file name, nothing happens, yet, when I insert C:/and the file name to an address box it works fine...but just using C:/ won't work unless it is on my computer...so how do I properly convert a Word Document to work in another Web Site using http://   ???? I want someone who accesses a particular Web Site to simply click on my link and up pops my document...sounds simple....I know I am doing something wrong but I am not tech savy enough to know what it is...Anyone care to enlighten me...I would be very appreciative.  Thanks.

http://WordDocument.doc is not even a valid hyperlink... What you need is to host your documents on a site somewhere (SharePoint?). Then you can create a hyperlink to the document on that site: http://www.somewebsite.com/folder/WordDocument.doc
