    Performance hit when using UDCs

We have a number of Infopath forms that have just been changed to use UDCs.

We hoped to get around deployment headaches by having a copy of each UDC stored in environment specific Data Connection Libraries (Dev, Test and Live) with each UDC copy pointing at the pertinent web service. Our understanding is that this is Microsofts recommended approach.

The unacceptable downside is that each time a data source is used for the 1st time it takes a couple of seconds to download the connection settings from sharepoint. We didnt expected the delay to be as long as this.

After a fair bit of research I have seen statements that UDC are just slow. No reasons as to why, or if its possible to speed them up.

Is this just a fact? Are UDCs a lot slower?

Does anyone know why they are so slow? These UDC files are extremely small and the delay seems excessive,

Is there anything to be done to speed them up?

Any response would be appreciated. I am strugging to find much information on this particular subject.

I have not noticed a difference in using UDC's. It may be an environmental issue with the your server or network.

Are the UDC's referencing web services on the SharePoint server or across the domain?

Thanks for the response and interesting that you havent noticed a performance hit.

Yes. The UDCs are referencing web services hosted across the domain.
