    Check if a string value exists in a repeating table (InfoPath2003)

    I have  defined a repeating table with a list of employees client can add to. One field of the repeating table is txtEmployeeName. I also have a field outside the table for the current user name as txtCurrentUser. Is there any way to find out if any of txtEmployeeName in the repeating table contains the value of txtCurrentUser?

    Use a filter.

    filed = txtEmployeeName[txtEmployeename = txtCurrentuser]

     I tried this but I got an error message:

    ".../txtEmployeeName" does not point to a valid location path of a field or group.

    What I did is using Rule dialog to insert an action (set a fields value). I tried to insert this value:

    txtEmployeeName[txtEmployeeName = txtCurrentUser]

     where txtEmployeeName and txtCurrentUser are fields I inserted by click on "Insert Field or Group..." button. What I did wrong?

     I think I figured out how to add this filtered "set a field's value" action. In the Select a Field or Group dialog, there is "Filter Data..." button. The filtered condition is added from this button. The content of [...] is a filtered condition. I'll give it a try to see if this works for my problem. Thanks!

    Hi

    The rule you state above, is that part of a filter?

    your filter should be to filter where txtemployeename = txtcurrentuser, i do not quite understand your use of the rule to set a field's value unless your filter is defined as the field you are setting the rule on, but then is that field inside our outside the table?

    Sorry to ask so many questions but I hope this makes sense
