    Infopath Sharepoint List Content Type

Is there any way of using a InfoPath form for a list content type? not a document library content type.

The problem is that lists don't have any validation process for data input...and it's also limited with its lookup fuctions and field calculation functions.

I'd like to use infopath to validate fields, lookup dropdown fields, and calculate field values....for lists...not document or form libraries.

    Mahalo!!

    Hey Kaleo,

Been on Vacation and getting caught up.

Not sure exactly what you are looking for but i can think of two options. There are some posts on the site on how to update list values. You can pull them into a form, update them and then save them back. Its a bit complex but it is doable.

My other thought is have you looked at the Database Accelerator? Qdabra Database Accelerator Suite Version 2.1 - Developer

SharePoint has limitations compared to a relational Database. With DBXL you have full control of your data and can manipulate it as you want.

Again not sure what your exact solution entails or your needs are but those are some options I though of.

    Aloha Clay,

    Thanks for the reply.

Unless the form would work like it does in a document library I wouldn't want to use it.

I'm mainly concerned about data validation.

I could write an event handler for the list to validate data but a user would have to submit the record in order to validate it...no real time validation...

If you have a tutorial I could follow regarding your first recommendation about pulling records into infopath and then posting them back, that would be great.

Then I'd be able to see if would work for me or not...

I found a tutorial regarding posting to sharepoint lists from infopath but it didn't seem to fit into what I was trying to accomplish.

I'd like to choose 'edit' from the sharepoint list item...and it pull up the infopath form for edit and submission.

    Thanks for your input!

    Mahalo!

    Kaleo
