    Ways to Connect Database

Well here goes for my first post.  I am wanting to connect an InfoPath form to a SQL database.  In connecting to the SQL database I am asked to enter username and password when I preview my form.  What is the best way to connect to a SQL database without the validation of username and password.  I am wanting to retrieve data from SQL not submit.  I hope you can help.

    Thanks

Hi cscheuerman and welcome to our forum!

Is this a problem when connecting to SQL from within the InfoPath designer or from the InfoPath editor?

For the latter, i.e. you are trying to create an InfoPath form connected to SQL that isn't a nuisance for your employees and don't want the username-password dialog to show up you should consider installing a Web service. The Web servie will manage access to SQL. We have a Web service that solves this problem and many more. Free dev version is available here: http://www.qdabra.com/proddetail.asp?prod=QDBXL1

Please feel free to send me e-mail and we can discuss your scenario further.

    Re: Ways to Connect Database

    Hi Patrick,

Thanks for your quick response.  I am not sure what you are asking so I will explain my scenerio.  I want to create a form that a user types in a unique identifier which then pulls data from a SQL database (which our application uses to store information for our office)  The InfoPath form will also contain fields that are not on the SQL database that a user will fill out.  I am successful in connecting the SQL database to the InfoPath form, however when I open the form and type in the unique identifier and run the query button, the SQL Server Login pops up.  Is there a way to connect to a SQL database and retreive data without the SQL Server Login?  Should I approach my scenerio another way, for instance without using a query button?

Once the form is designed it will be published to a Sharepoint site.

    Looking forward to your help

    Regards,
    Cindy

    Hi Cindy,

Is the SQL server configured to run under Windows Authentication or SQL Authentication (SA)?  If you are running under Windows Authentication and the SQL server is in the same domain, you can give people access to the SQL databases and you won't see this problem.
