I am creating a form that has Professional Title as a drop Down list field with about 30 entires.  I have a State Board License Text Box String Field with Data Validation that says if Professional Title is Not Blank and Professional Title is = MD, RN, PA, PhD, etc then State Board License Field is Required.

The issue is when I select Professional Title to (let's say) =MD, the State Board License Field becomes required, I enter a number or alpha text and then the box appears as a red dash field.  There is no requirements as to what can be entered; why is the field turning red dashed.  This was not happening when I prior to adding Data Validation comments to the field.

Any suggestions?

The red dashes mean InfoPath does not like what you are inputing into the field. There is some kind of format issue.  I would double check what type of field it is, that it is not a date or boolean or something.

Can you input into it without red dashes before you select your other critieria?  I would maybe put the field on your form temporarily and play it with to diagnose what is going on.  Sometimes creating an expression box with the field can show you the true value of the field without the control trying to format it.

Thank you for the advice.  I actually figured out another way to code the field.

 If State License is Blank and Professional Title = MD  or Professional Title = DO, etc then required.  I tested and entered data; I no longer get the red dash box.
