Using a button to simply call Web Service data

    Using a button to simply call Web Service data

    I am a newbie so please bear with me. I did a search prior to posting as I know its annoying to see the same question over and over again. Unfortunately, I didn’t see something specific to the question

    Someone from our team setup a web service method called GetConfigInputHelp(). The returned xml looks like this.

    <Info xmlns="">

      <Input_A Question="What is the system?" QuestionShort="System " QuestionHelp="" IPHelp="hi, this is a space filler:
What is the system?

More Info:
"></Input_A>

    </Info>

    The end goal is to have a button simply pull up this information OnClick. Nothing more. These buttons act as info/quick help buttons. In previous designs, they are stored as messages in the button but we are exploring pulling the data from the webservice.

    Is there a code template available that I can reference, modify and place inside the button’s code?

    FYI:

    I already have a pull down set to call a list from webservice and it works very well.

    So you are creating a survey or questionaire and you want to have it dynamic by getting the questions from a DB via a web service. This may be more work than just updating your questionaire form every so often.

    A web service is a data connection so you it to query on load or have a button action initiate the query. Then you could also have subsequent action the displayed the result from it or whatever.

    If you need some sample webservices to analyze - download the Database Accelerator. Qdabra Database Accelerator Suite Version 2.0 - Developer

    you can also look at the web developers reference.Web Method Developer's Reference

    Re: Using a button to simply call Web Service data

    I have a set of questions and answers inside an EXCEL sheet. This sheet is maintained by someone else. Next to each question is a more info/help cell which future explains the question. I am mimicking this EXCEL sheet via InfoPath where the questions and answers are text and controls respectively. There is a "?" button next to each question which is designed to contain the same info/help text.

    In the past, I just cut/paste the help text in a message where it will display when the person clicks on the "?" button. To reduce maintenance, I would like to pull the cell info directly into the button. Click a button, call web service, and just display cell data. I'll take a look at the links provided to see if I can dervice code from it.
