master/detail type control not working with filter.. please help ASAP

    Hello All,

This is a fairly urgent matter. I have a combobox that looks up its values from the forms datasource. I want to link this to a repeating table and i am doing so through the use of a filter however it's not working, basically the link isn't being created and i don't konw why... i have to be able to insert rows intot he table and the inserted row is not being inserted in the correct record, it gets inserted in the first node in the xml. Anyone know why this is happening or how i can make this set up work right??

    Thanks!

Do you think it would be possible for you to share out your form? I am not sure I understand what the problem is...

Re: master/detail type control not working with filter.. please help ASAP

I can send you my form however it embedded in a windows application and there is a lot of custom development behind it parts of it may not work.. I'll try to explain my scenario again...if you wnat me to send you my form so you can see it please tell me how to do so i don't know how to attach to this...

THere are 2 tabs on my form (Identify and Evaulate)

On the first tab (identify) there is a drop down box in a master/detail control - the user can choose many different items on this tab and fill out the information.  Once the user has selected something they can navigate to the Evaluate tab, on this tab there is a drop down box whose datasource is coming from the forms datasource itself (basically it's being filled by all of the choices that were selected on the first tab) Also on this evaluate tab there is a repeating table that contains more information for the selections that were made on the first tab (i'll show a diagram of the xml shortly). so i want the repeating table data to be the records that are attached to the id of the drop down box so initially when i am on that page it is empty and i have to add the detail, so i add the detail but it isn't getting stored with its proper record infopath is storing ALL values (regardless of the master value i choose out of the drop down box) in the very first node ALWAYS.

Here is the node i am talking about, everything in blue shows up on the first tab in a master detail section.  Everything in red shows up on the second tab for now i just show the my:def_Name field but it's in a repeating table, i have a combobox on the second tab whose source comes from the ass_ID field in blue but it is not a true master /detail, just a field whose datasource is this field and a repeating table to show all of the my:def fields. So the user selects the ass_id from the combox and i want to add the my:def field values for that asset and i should be able to achieve this by using a filter so i filter the repeating table on the combox value = ass_ID .. but when i actually go to insert into the repeating table it inserts EVERY record regardless of what value my combox contains in the same node (the below nodes is repeating so there can be many and i want the right my:def fields to go into the right insepctedAsset node)... hope this makes sense....

You have a pretty complex scenario so it's be best if it was possible for you to share out the solution XSN. Just make sure that the issue still reproduces without the rest of the winform code.

To attach a file, simply clik on "files" on the top of the forum, go to "Uploads", "Community Uploads" and upload your form there.

Thanks so much for you responses, we were losing a lot of time on this so i simply changed the schema, i took the def section out of the assetinspections section and created a link between the two and things are working now. It is a bit of a complex scenario and if you are interested in still taking a look at the form let me know and you are welcome to but this works!

    Thanks,

Well, I'm glad you have found a workaround! :)
