    Conditional Formatting

    Help!
I have created a Multi Select list box that based on the which check boxes get selected, the associated expression appears in a second list box. I now want to create conditional formatting based on the presence of the selected value in the second list box. Since the second list box can have anywhere from 1 to many values but is not a repeating field, I cannot figure out how to hide (or make appear) a third text field based on a specific value appearing in the second
    list box.

    For example

List 1 (Multi Select List box) List Box
    Name Number
    Number Address
    Address

I select "Number" from the first list and it appears in the second list. I now want a text field to appear called Phone Number (where the user can actually enter the phone number) because that is what they chose. The same thing for Address. A field to enter the address would only appear after Address is chosen from the multi select list.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. FYI I'm not a coder

Well hello Ms. Dazed and Confused and welcome to the forum! Hopefully after spending a little time here you will be able to change your name, haha!

I'm not exactly sure what you are trying to accomplish here, but it sounds a lot like a master/detail repeating section - have you looked into this before?

Otherwise, does the first list have to be in a list box? If they were static selections with checkboxes for each one this could easily be accomplished by showing/hiding each section depending on the state of it's corresponding checkbox.

I hope this helps, but please provide a little more information. It seems like this is a pretty complicated situation, but I hope you're not making it more complicated than it has to be.

Thanks for trying to help. Unfortunately I am still very Dazed and Confused. By the way it is actually Ms. Dazed.

I found a forum entry where a guy seems to be asking the same thing I am. Unfortunately I don't understand the answer he was given either. The entry ishttp://www.infopathdev.com/forums/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=1072&SearchTerms=xdextension
When using a Multi Select box, how can you tell the system to differentiate between one entry and another. Mine all have same name. If I set up conditional formatting based on a value in the Multi Select box being checked then the condition gets met as long as all the entries get checked or not Checked. Have I set up my multi select box wrong?

I read the articles on xdExtension but these are not making sense either. Any help is appreciated.

I'm terrible sorry about mixup - I have edited my original post to remove the erronous "Mr."

I still don't understand what you are tying to do here - could you describe an example of the behavior you are trying to model?

Here's the scenario. I am trying to create a form where users can select from a number of items in a list. Based on which items they select a second list gets generated showing just the selected items. Based on the items selected, additional boxs are required.

    List One List two
    (ck) desktop desktop
    laptop monitor
    (ck) monitor

In this example a user chose desktop and monitor so they appear in the second box. Note laptop was not chosen so it did not appear in the second box.

Now that I know desktop was chosen I need to ask the user what kind of desktop. What I can't figure out is how to tell if desktop was chosen. In list one which is a multi select box it does not have a unique field name. At least not based on the way I followed the directions for setting up a list box. I can get the value of desktop to appear in list two but can't find a way to indentify it once it gets there either.

    Hi Dazed and Confused,

Ok, now I understand. what you need is a filter. The syntax is going to be a little difficult because I don't know exactly how you have the ListOne implemented. When you choose what appears in ListTwo you should be able to click "Filter Data" and specify that only the rows where checked = true should populate the list.

If you needed a table and not a drop-down list then you should be able to use conditional fomratting to hide all rows that are not checked.

    I hope this helps!

I am with you so far and actually had list two set up as you suggested. It is a list box and had a filter to only show a value if checked=true. What I have now are just selected values showing up in list two. Now I need to create a field called type of desktop and only make it available for entry if the value desktop appears in list 2. Since list 2 has just one field name and is dynamically built based on values being selected from list 1, how can I base conditional formatting on a value being present in list 2.
