    Filter Drop Down List

    Hi,
I'm using InfoPath 2003 SP2 and I have the following situation:
I have a form that contains the details of an network node. I am trying to make it so that when the user selects the location of a node (city level, eg echuca or devonport) from one drop down list the second drop down list (sitelocation, eg. administration, computer room, factory) will only show values relevant to the selected city.

For example, the user might select Echuca in the first DDL and the only 'sitelocations' at echuca might be Admin or Factory.

I've spent quite some time searching these and other forums and have reached the conclusion that this is quite possible using code but should be easier using filters and secondary data sources. Unfortunately I don't know too much in the way of coding. My experience is with Java but javascript and the DOM defeat me.

My attempts with filters and datasources have been slightly more successful.
I created a sharepoint list with two columns (one for the cities and one for the sitelocation).
In the properties of the 2nd DDL I added the list as a data connection.
In the Entries field I used the Select XPath button to select my sharepoint list and I then select the Filter Data... button.
I've tried various filtering options but have been unable to achieve what I want to do.

Am I going about this the wrong way? Any advice or direction to a tutorial would be much appreciated

    Cheers,
    Sam

    Hi Sam,

Welcome the the forum. Have you read the how-to article for Creating a Cascading List from a Hierarchical Data Source on our site? Here is the link:

If it still not answer your question, please post back.

Thanks Stephanie, that's exactly what I was looking for. I've completed the tutorial and should be able to customise it to my needs (was intending to use a sharepoint list instead of xml as the tute suggests, will try and avoid this though).
