Default value updates onLoad and looses overwrite

I have a form that has items a user can select, upon selection a Price field is updated and the user is allowed to enter a Quantity.

I have an ExtendedPrice field that has it's default value set to = Price * Quantity.

Users must be able to manually type in the extended price in order to override the defaults. Currently when they override the ExtendedPrice it works great until the form is re-opened, at which point the calculation is recalculad. (i.e. loosing the users changes and reverting back to the default).

Is there any way I can force the calculation not to occur onLoad??
I can think of manual work arounds, but I want to be sure I understand the updating of the default values.

Thanks in advance for any help,
    Carie

It sounds like you are using the default value behavior of InfoPath. You would be better off writing code to do this because you have greater control over when and how the update occurs.
