    Filter Master Table with DDL

    Hello-

I am rather new to Infopath, but I am already learning how powerful this application can be in the right environment.

I am working on a new form, and I am running across a little problem that I have a feeling is very easy to solve. I have a master / detail table on the same view, and I am wanting to have a dropdown, that when a user selects a value, will automatically filter the master table based upon the xml field value. I have the data coming from a web service within my main data connection.

I would like to accomplish this either through rules or code....

    Any ideas?

Thank you for your time and consideration on this issue.

Is the filter button not available in the properties dialog box for the repeating table when it is bound to data coming from a Web service?

You should still be able to use conditional formatting even if fitlering is not available.

    Thanks for the reply Greg....

Can these filters or conditions be executed after a user selects a value in a dropdown? Do the actions need to be in an onchange event through code, or can I set this up with rules?

I thought that filters or conditions are applied at all times, not just on a user action....is this correct?

I would like the entire xml dataset returned when the form loads, and then filter the dataset only when a user selects a value from a dropdown list.

Yes, conditional formatting and filters are applied at all times. But, you can set it up to where all rows are displayed if the user has no selection made. So if the drop-down list has 'blank' selected (or no selection) then all rows are displayed, and when the user selects a value, then the rows are filtered.

    I believe the expression is:

When DropDownValue is not blank, and RowFieldValue = DropDownValue

That way the filter is not applied when DropDownValue is blank--thus showing all rows.
