InfoPath Dev

I am using SharePoint with InfoPath and have suddenly got an error when I try to fill out a form or open a form in design mode. I can open an existing form from a form library ok. I used to be able to do this all ok.

The error given is: This feature requires Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.0 or later and a windows SharePoint Services-compatible XML editor such as Microsoft Office

I was using IE 7 but have tried uninstalling this and using IE6, and also tried using Firefox and no change. I have also tried uninstalling infopath and reinstalling, and have checked for all latest updates.

My SharePoint username and password work fine on other pcs / laptops and I only get this error on one computer.

Has anyone got any idea why I might be getting it?

The issue you're encountering is a local machine configuration issue. InfoPath registers a dll which SharePoint scripts need to access when opening forms in editor or designer. Try to repair the InfoPath installation on that machine. If that doens't work you may need to uninstall and reinstall InfoPath.

These things are often tough and worst case you need to wipe the OS out and start over. Hopefullly your IT guys use imaging and can reimage it pretty quickly. The only other thing I would try is maybe reinstalling all of Office, if you have not already, I know Outlook has some interaction with SharePoint too. Otherwise it could be from IE or other web browsers being used but at this point may not be wortht he troubleshooting and may need to reinstall windows.

Another person in my company is now getting the same error. Do you know if this is somehow due to the installation of IE7?
