Is there a way to put a if statement or a check in default value field

example

if IsNew then @E-mail_Address[contains(@Modified_By, concat(@Last_Name, " ", @First_Name))]

something like that

Eval and XPath should support conditions but probably requires studying up a bit. Check out the XPath references under resources. Also, look at the Eval function.
