I have a sharepoint document database of infopath forms. Given the purpose and design of my forms, it is possible to have one form reference another in the same document database.

I was able to create a drop down list within an infopath form that showed an appropriately filtered list of the sharepoint documents and allowed me to select one.

Once I have the document selected, I want some way to click a link or button that takes me to that document for editing.

Any help would be appreciated.

Insert a hyperlink control and bind this field to the drop down field in the datasource. Once you select the Document form the list the same value comes into the Hyperlink field and then you can click on this and go for editing.
