Random Users Getting Error - Accessing Data Across Domains...

    Hi all,
I have been trying to solve for an issue that is only affecting 2 of my pilot users right now.  I have an IP 2010 Filler Form published to MOSS 2007.  One of my data connections is connecting to a SQL server on a button click.  It works great for me and has worked for others... but a couple people are getting this series of errors that won't allow them to create the data connections.

The first error I've attached.  It's an error regarding security saying that "Accessing data across domains is not supported for forms opened on the internet."

When the person hits ok, the next error says "Infopath cannot connect to the datasource. Should Infopath continue trying to connect to data sources for this form?"

If they hit yes, they then get the "Data cannot be retrieved due to Infopath being in offline mode..." and, after ok, they get a message that the error was aborted.

I've searched all over the web to find an answer, but only have found issues with people not being able to open forms, people using browser enabled forms, and/or people on Sharepoint 2010 with access to to stuff I don't have access to.

    Any ideas???

    Thanks!

Re: Random Users Getting Error - Accessing Data Across Domains...

I can judge only through my Office 365 (Sharepoint Online, which is Sharepoint server 2010 with some specific tweaks and restrictions)

It is impossible to open Infopath filler form in browser (while browser form can be opened both in client/filler and/or browser) and such attempt produces quite a different error details:

    • . This form template is not currently browser enabled.

Now Infopath filler with "external" connections (e.g. to internal built-in webservice) produces the error

    • "Accessing data across domains is not supported for forms opened on the internet."

when its template is not attrributed Full Trust and signed with a digital certificate.

Now, the certificate can expire (I use self-signed certificate for development/testing/prototyping which is valid for 30 days) and be changed (or corrupted) while the old one be cached on client machine. The solution to this is to clean Inopath cache in client machines/directories of troubled users but I believe that the error message is different in such cases.

There is a lack of information about how your network environment/infrastructure security and access is configured and there are a lot of points to llok into but I would look (search, investigate) first of all in the direction of how you use/configure digital signing certificates for Infopath/Office templates

    Thanks for the reply Gennady.

My forms are set up wtih domain trust.  I honestly don't even know if I could find someone in our company to provide a certificate for full trust.

What I don't understand is why only some people have issues and others don't.  I would say, yes I need full trust, if it was a problem across the board, but how is it that only some are affected?

At first I thought perhaps it was that some users were on IE6 still, while others are on IE8 because that seemed to be the dividing factor... but since then a couple folks with IE8 have said they get the error.  I also tried looking at the Internet setting Access data source across domains... but mine ISN'T enabled, yet I have no issues and others whose setting is enabled, are having issues.

Are there perhaps some settings on user computers that are causing it?

I'd love it if I could get a certificate for full trust, but I just have no idea where to start looking for someone to approve that one.

Is the site the form is opened from in the users local intranet?

    Hi Hilary,

Yes, the form is opened off of a sharepoint that is on a network server.  The SQL server is also housed locally.

    Thanks for jumping in!

Did you ever find a resolution for this issue? If yes, would you help me with the resolution. Thanks, V
