Update existing list without code, through infopath submit button

    Hello everybody,

I'm new to sharepoint (two weeks) and infopath (three days). With the amazing help of this forum I managed to do a lot of the things I wanted but not all of them. Let me explain.

First, I work on a sharepoint website for a supplier management tool. Each supplier has related data stored in 3 tables :

    - Supplier Core Data (main data such as name, address, phone etc.)

    - Supplier Key Data (info about the supplier plant, employees and so on)

    - Supplier KPI (info of my company related to the supplier)

On my website there is a page that displays all of this. BUT the Supplier Key Data and KPI tables contain lot a data that I wanted to display in tabular form. So I decided to use infopath and to auto-populate the fields through query data rules. Which I manage after hours of tests, dumb questions and google requests. The forms are then displayed through infopath form webpart.

Then I managed to add a submit button (submit using a data connection : main connection), which ADDs the item to my list. And that's where I'm stuck. I don't want to add an item but modify the already existing item in the list. I saw many posts about some magic CAML code which I would like not to use (I have no idea about how to use it),I then thought about using a workflow to delete the old item but that's seem tricky and risky and I've not used workflows yet (but maybe it is time to start). Or is it just because I haven't copied all the fields when doing my autopopulation but only the ones I wanted to display?

I don't want to write any code because this solution is not for me, but for my coworkers who will have to be able to develop and debug it when I'll be gone (I am an intern). That's why I need a simple solution.

So what should I do? Am I asking too much or is it possible to finally achieve my goal?

I am using infopath 2013 and sharepoint designer 2013

Thank for your help in the future =) (see you on Monday, now it's time to go on weekend)

UPDATE : I solved my problem by doing what I said with the workflow strategy.

I create a workflow on both my lists, updated my list fields (it took a really long time to update each field manually) and I deleted the current item with a condition (some fields were a bit modified through my query).

Hi - glad you found a solution & thanks for updating. I was out for a long weekend for the US holiday - don't want you to feel like you were just talking to yourself. :)

     Thank you Hilary !

Sure I talked to myself but it helped me solve my problem. I should not be scared of making tests. And I'm about to post another question because I'm facing another weird problem...
