Problem with Date Picker and the date format

Hello. I need help with InfoPath please. It's about a Date Picker and the date format.

I have a field in a SharePoint list that's called Meeting Date. When the user creates a new item, it has to default to "Today" (just a date without a time fraction) and let the user change to a different date if they wish to.

In the InfoPath form, I have a date picker with a formula set to today(). I've chosen the format to be mm/dd/yyyy. But when I open the form in SP, the date comes up as yyyy-mm-dd outlined in red. Unless the user changes to the proper format, the form will yield an error. The user then has toggle days with the date picker or enter the proper format to be able to save the form entries.

My users are "complainers" and if things are not 100% right and easy they give me a lot of trouble !

    Please help.

It sounds like your field is actually a date time - this is a list form? If so, try using the now() function instead of today. The format options in a list's column are about the way the date is displayed, the actual data type is a date time still.
