InfoPath Dev

The request details field is set to expand to display text. Prior to submission, it is top left aligned (as desired). After submission, the text will drop to the middle of the cell. Is there a way to maintain the top left alignment while still allowing the cell to expand?

 

 

Oh that is a weird one. Is this a browser form (one you open in your web browser) or in a filler form? If a browser form, is it a SharePoint list form? What about SharePoint / InfoPath version? Feel free to attach a copy of your template under the Options tab in a reply if you'd like me to take a look at it. :)

Ah hah - so the screenshot with the control layout all funny is from the email? I'll take a look tomorrow & see what can be done - sometimes formatting gets tricky in email. :)

 Yes, that is how it looks in the email. It is perfectly fine if the form is open (it's sent as an attachment).

Okay, so here is what made it look right in email for me - I set the height on the rich text box to "auto" - Now, it still didn't display white all the way across, but I think you are going to have trouble getting the email formatted nicely with the gray table background, and you may want to make some modifications to that (like, make the table background white in the columns with the data, perhaps?) but this should at least improve the alignment. :)

So the problem I encounter doing that is the text no longer wraps.

Did you also set the width to auto? I just set the height - see attached screenshot. I also am using Office 2016 with IP 2013 - not sure if that makes a difference here.

 No, width of the cell is still set to 528px. It just isn't respecting it/wrapping the text. I confirmed, text wrapping is checked.

 Yes the control itself.

Weird - on my machine it wraps. I'm not sure what else to suggest. Sometimes I hide form controls and display calculated values instead to get a better formatted email, but I'm pretty sure a calculated value isn't going to display the line breaks in the rich text.

 So I've been playing around with it and believe I figured out the culprit: the text box is rich text. As soon as I changed it to plan text the wrapping worked as it should in the email body.

Wonderful - and that is an acceptable work around for you? Your users don't require rich text?
