    Highlighting changed fields?

    Hi guys

I have a large form and I'd love to know when opening the form which field has been edited or completed for the first time - without me having to look at all of the fields to try and spot it.

Therefore I'm trying to figure out a way of highlighting a field that has been edited. I was thinking of adding some formula like "if field is edited / completed turn red"

    Can anyone help with this?

    Thanks :)

Oh man. This will probably turn into a performance nightmare if there are a lot of fields, frankly. I mean, to know if something has been edited, you have to track that - likely by adding an attribute to every single field you are interested in tracking... and then add rules to set the attribute, formatting rules to highlight if the attribute is true, etc. A slightly less nightmare scenario would be to add a single field you use to track changes and add rules to every single field to write to that field if they change, tons of rules, again. I'd probably just take a code approach instead of a rules approach - store a copy of the XML on load in a variable or something, diff it against the current state on Submit, use XSLT to set the helper attributes so that when the form is opened again conditional formatting could be used. But that still sounds yucky. Maybe just add a comments box and convince your users to enter info about their changes prior to submit?

    Thank you Hilary.

    I've since found this:

But I don't understand what 'Flag Fields' are.

Do you know what they are and how I'd create one?

    Thanks :)
