    Repeating Item Child count

    Hi all

I have a parent repeating item group, inside it is another repeating item group. I'm trying to count inside the child repeating group a column that has an equal value inside the child group. I'm getting a message "A filter cannot be applied...." message, what am I doing wrong? Any help is much appreciated :D

Can you attach a screenshot or something? Under the Options tab - or even your form with some direction on where you are seeing the issue.

     Hi Hilary!

Thank you for the quick response again! :)

I have a sample of a working file, but it doesn't have a parent-child group structure. The working version is the DuplicateTest.xsn, the one I'm trying to solve is the Sample.xsn file.

Basically what I'm trying to do is a count on the child group level of the Merged column that has an equal counterpart. I might be explaining this really bad lol let me know if you need more clarity :)

So - what is it you want a count of? "an equal counterpart" of what? What makes something a duplicate in the child group in Sample.xsn? EDITED to add - You want to know if there is more than instance of the value of the Merged field? Per parent group? Or overall?

    Re: Repeating Item Child count

     Hi Hilary,

If you open the Duplicate..xsn, a unique key is combo of Key1 + Key2, Duplicate column is set to false initially until it sees a similar unique key thus identifying a "duplicate". What I'm trying to implement on the sample.xsn file is the same but I think it doesn't allow me because it's inside a group. I'm trying to track the count of similar Merged columns in the Sample.xsn file. Let me know if you need a sample screenshot if anything thanks again

Yah, attach a screen shot showing sample.xsn in preview, with some data, and show me the duplicate items - I'm not sure if you are looking for dupes in single parent group or over all.

I must not be expressing myself clearly. I understand what you have in place in the duplicates XSN. I do NOT understand your desired outcome in the Sample XSN. If there are, for example, two parent groups, and in each of those parent groups there is a child with a value of Merge=123, is that a duplicate? Or is it only a duplicate if there are two items with a value of Merge=123 in a single parent?

It's not you Hilary :) It's me I think that blurred it out bad, what I want on the Sample.xsn file is to have the Duplicate column working the same way as the Duplicate.xsn. From the screenshot at the top, it doesn't allow me to set the same filter settings. I am thinking now this is happening because there's an extra layer involved (myFields/ParentGroup/ChildGroup) vs the Duplicate.xsn file wherein there's only myFields/Rows.

I still don't know if you are looking for unique per parent, or universally unique, so I added a second field for universally unique and added defaults to both. Hope this sample helps!

Hilary! That's the one I was looking for, to answer the question was looking for universal per parent. :D This is awesome! Thank you so much
