Infopath 2010 error - The URL ‘[url]’ is invalid. It may refer to a nonexistent file or folder, or refer to a valid file or folder that is not in the current Web

I had recently renamed one of the fields in Infopath form through the designer and published the form to an existing SharePoint form library. Ever since, on the items in the SharePoint form library that had data in the renamed field, throws this error -"The URL ‘[url]’ is invalid. It may refer to a nonexistent file or folder, or refer to a valid file or folder that is not in the current Web" every time I try to update the item. I downloaded an item as an xml file and opened it in notepad. I found that the field I had renamed still has it's old name, and with the value in it. I have looked up for this error in the web and have come acorss so many different solutions for all kids of different scenarios (seems to be one of those unhelpful and unspecific error messages), but not this specific kind of situation. Has anyone ever had this issue before?
