InfoPath Dev

Hi. I've been using infopath for about a month or two and I'm pretty much stuck on one problem. For my company, I'm creating a form that will send an email to many different people based upon several user selections within the form. The part I am having an issue with is that I need to be able to have the "From" address in the email display an email address other than the one I have configured in Outlook. Since I have the ability to send an email as many different users within the company, I would ideally like to be able to have the email created by Infopath and open as an Outlook message without it automatically sending (using Outlook rules really isn't an option) so that I can then change to "From" field within the message myself. Is there any way to go about this?

If you use SharePoint Designer to do your workflow and send the emails, then there is a custom action on CodePlex that lets you specify the From address.

Thanks for the quick reply! I've never used SharePoint Designer with workflows before so I'll have to look into that. By any chance, do you know which action on the CodePlex site this is?

The activity in question is Send Email Extended, but you may be interested in some of the others, too.  These are activities that are not in SPD out of the box but can be added easily.

 Thanks for all the replies! That seems like a great idea, however my system admin disabled editing the sharepoint site with sharepoint designer, so I could not try that. Does anyone know of a way to not allow Infopath to automatically send the emails when the form is submitted, but rather open the email in the Outlook client for me to configure and send myself?

I don't know of any such thing.  Can you not speak with the SP administrator to see if you can get a concession for making workflows.  At my client, we plan to lock down SPD, too, because it's dangerous in the wrong hands.  However, we will have a special server for doing SPD changes limited to certain people, and we will require them to first build in a test/pilot environment.  They can't make it where NO ONE can use SPD, else they are severely limiting the functionality of SP.

Are you at a National Lab or Battelle by chance?
