Hey All,
We've created a custom comboBox (ActiveX control) that supports hierarchical dropdown information/selection. We've integrated this with the DIP for Office 2007. Write now, however, we pass the hierarchical data that will be used by the controls on the DIP in an XML file (one of many solutions that worked for us). The field types are simple text fields... We'd like to make a more complete solution by creating custom field types that lookup the hierarchical information from another data source (e.g. a webservice) and associating the custom field type with our hierarchical control as we'd like the same (or very similar) control to be used in the DIP and when editing properties through SharePoint. We have considered a number of strategies to implement this, but are interested in hearing from others who have done similar things to see if there were any best practices for this sort of thing. Preferably, we'd like to have the DIP receive the hierarchical metadata from the custom field types and have it available to the ActiveX controls...
Any thoughts would be much appreciated!!! Thanks a lot!!!
Craig.
