issue with Visual stuido on new machine

    I have a strange problem.

I have been developing an IF solution with visual studio 2005 using the VSTO. I have been doing the work on my vista machine (what a pain) but i have needed to use the MOSS object model. So i have install VS2005 on my development server and installed the VSTO. I can open the project solution but when i try and open the manifest.xsf visual studio crashes and restarts. I can edit the form code and even test th project but i can edit the form or publish the form because it won;t open the manifest.

has anyone seen this before or got any advise on how to fix as it is a real pain having to do some work on one machine and some work on the other. I want to do all the work on the server.

    Thanks

I do not recall seeing a VS crash recently but here are a few things you can try:

    1. You say you are working on a vista machine because you "need to use the MOSS object model". Is your VS fully patched? I think you need to install SP1 and maybe another update before VS will run well on Vista. Also, if the only thing you need from MOSS is the ability to link to the DLLs, you maybe could just copy them over to another machine and GAC them.

    2. If you cannot open manifest.xsf from VS, how about closing your solution after having compiled the code and then browsing to manifest.xsf in explorer, context-clicking on it and saying "Design"? This might work.

Re: issue with Visual stuido on new machine

    Sorry

I am currently using my VS install on my local VISTA machine. I have copied the Microsoft.Sharepoint.dll and can code fine but i have errors when i try and run the form as it cannot tal to MOSS correctly.

It is my VS install on my server (windows 2003) that will not open the manifest.xsf file correctly.

I have done a full windows update and updates VS to SP1 and it still crashes.

By concern is that when i format my vista machine i won;t be able to open these projects again.

I will try your idea of opening the manifest in infopath and see what happens.
