Drop Down List: Show Character field, copy Id (integer)

    Dear Colleague,

I have tried unsuccessfully to implement a standard form functionality (which interacts with a database) in which a user interacts with a drop down list control, selects a value (e.g. a Employee Name) and this triggers an action that copies the Employee Id (integer) into the Employee Id field and also the Employee Name is displayed on the form.

The form is intended to capture Tasks and the underlying Tasks table stores only the foreign key column Employee_Id (integer). The linked Employees table contains the Employee Name.

Can this be done with standard InfoPath functionality, i.e. with a  drop down list control coupled to a corresponding Rule that has a set of actions that use standard functionality. If not, what are my options to implement this functionality?

I would appreciate it if someone could give me some insight on this.

    Thanks and kind regards,

    Randy

Sounds pretty simple.  What have you done so far and what isn't working?

also, are you sure the employee id is an integer?  If it's something like 971120, then I don't consider that an integer but rather text.  It doesn't get used for math equations or anything...
